OH my, Bill Cheatham actually won the poll for August! I was absolutely certain about Cold frosty morning, and have even started playing it. But, it's time that I learn Bill Cheatham properly so that's a good pick I guess. I've played Bill Cheatham for 7 years but never really learned it. There are a few tunes like that, Sally Goodin was one of them. I've been playing my favorites and learned them but then there are a few tunes that were in my book and that I never learned well for some reason. I don't know why I haven't worked more with Bill C, I actually like the tune.

I'm looking forward to your recording of Bill Cheathum Susanne. I have used some of your previous recordings to learn the tune, I like playing my fiddle along with your mandolin(hope you don't mind).
I attempted to post a recording of Red Haired Boy which I'm not sure was successful, so I'll try again with Bill Cheathum, which I actually already know quite well so I won't leave it till so late in the month this time.

I changed my vote to Cold frosty morning. That is a great tune. I think it is in the lead again by 8 to 6 over Billy Cheatham.

Sorry to all the Billy Cheatham fans.

Cheers,
Pete

I don't mind at all that you fiddle along with my recordings! I actually feel honored! I'm very happy to know that my recordings can be to help for someone.

I've listened to your recording of Redhaired boy so uploading it sure was successful, I just haven't had time to comment it. I just love the fiddle and it's great to have a fiddler in the group! I'm trying to learn the fiddle myself, but at the moment I've set it aside, I'm preparing for a bluegrass festival and my first jams where I'll play and sing some lead, so I'm focusing a lot on the mandolin right now, but sure I'll take up my fiddle again.

About your recording, I like it, it sounds you're quite sure on both the fiddle and guitar. Great timing, and you put in some little triplets and stuff everywhere. It's a cool version. Great job! Please feel free to add your recordings on the previous tunes as well, at least I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for your comments Susanne.

So it's Cold Frosty Morning then.(in August http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif )

I'll be starting from scratch http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif on this one so I hope I can get it learnt and posted before August runs out.

I started with CFM last weekend and played it at the wed jam. There were a few people who knew it and another guitar player that thought it was cool too. I think it could be a really fun one to get down.

I have no idea how to play the chords to it though http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Cheers,

Whew, been thru a bunch of stuff, never heard this one (CFM). Hopefully it will have a nice easy melody to grasp! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Wow, I've been 'out of it' for awhile - out of town for 3 of the last 5 weeks (Kaufman Kamp, Work, Canada, Work, Minneapolis, and now back at work). I haven't been visiting, playing, or downloading our project tunes lately. I was excited to see as Bluegrasstjej announced that BC was in, and now I got to figure out what CFM sounds like! Should be neat. I haven't tried RHB yet, but might try it out tonight. I'm still not attempting laying down backup tracks yet......

Oh yeah, maybe Craig should make an official anncmnt via a new thread as to which song won the poll for August, or else someone may just interpret bill cheatham as the winner.

Craig doesn't seem to be around at the moment, he hasn't logged on since 21st July. Anyone know what's happened to him?

....and you Roger, didn't start until sometime in July...and yet you are seemingly very comfortable with "all of us" here in the beginner's section...you aren't Craig in disguise are you?

Sorry If I've been over familiar for a new guy! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
I'm definitely not Craig, for a start I don't yet play mandolin. (only guitar and fiddle)
But I genuinely feel comfortable with anyone who plays my kind of music.
