I saw in the NAMM thread that Santa Cruz had introduced an octave mandolin based on their Southern Jumbo guitar body. There's a picture in there too, on Page 2.

With a bit of research, I found the press release:

Did anyone out there see this in person and what do they think of it?

That is a mandocello, not an OM, right?

They had a prototype mandocello at the Mando Symposium in Santa Cruz.

I guess I dig the wierdness in mandocello's so I must say I'm not crazy about the shape being so close to dreadnaught guitar, but I guess it all comes down to sound and playability anyway.
