I might have posted this in the Old Time section but I thought it might have broader appeal. I heard this great article on NPR (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=99372779) about how Judy Hyman of the Horseflies and Ray Alden have been using the internet to preserve field recordings from Old Time Players and fests, like the Galax Fiddler's Convention.

There are more linked sounds and a video.

Here's a link to the field recorder's collective. (http://www.fieldrecorder.com/index.htm) A great part of this site is the liner notes for their CDs are all on-line. There are also plenty of mp3 to listen to as well.

My hope isn't to advertise and drive sales but to let you all know of an interesting resource of real Old Time Recordings to help learn new tunes.

That was a great "article" on NPR! She talked about Harold Hausenfluck and the Dixie B Liners" a great band (from years ago) and good friends of mine. What they are trying to do with the recordings is wonderful. Harold is in a nursing home due to many health issues, and I'm sure any $ that came his way would be helpful....
I consider myself lucky to have spent my "formative years" being in and around Galax, Mt. Airy, and various bluegrass festivals back in the 70's,80's 90's..Also Clifftop is a great festival that's a mixture of all kinds of "acoustic music".
