Here's a great clip of one of my favourite Mandolin players, playing one of my top 3 favourite fiddle tunes "Dixie Hoedown". That guy is as awesome on the fiddle as he still is on the Mandolin,

That twin fiddle video is great! I didn't know Jesse played fiddle, but obviously he does, and very well. Watching that video led me to the one linked below. Jesse's cross picking at the beginning and the end of this video is just amazing. There is a section in the middle that is supposed to be a banjo solo, but it really sounds strange for some reason. Maybe it's a problem with the recording. Anyhow, at the end, there is a close up of Jesse's right hand crosspicking. That guy is incredible!

Great videos -- thanks for posting.

I had never seen a video of Jesse playing that song on the fiddle.

On the Mandolin Extravaganza CD Jesse tells about how he came to write "Dixie Hoedown". He actually wrote it as a fiddle tune and then played it as a twin fiddle piece that Vassar Clements.

It is one of my favorite songs to play on the mandolin. You can get all kinds of different effects because it seems like about every other measure is 4 eight notes, a quarter, then two more eights so you can play around with that pattern.

Now I only I could someday play it like Jesse...............:crying:

Its sad that Jim is gone -- they were one of my favorite bluegrass acts!

I tried embed another Jim and Jesse video but the embedding feature does not seem to be working right now. It my favorite of their songs.
