At 24" long and 9 + inches wide I would think it is most likely a mandolin and not a mandola.
Really need to know the scale length to be certain.

Might be a Stromberg/Voisinet, predating the Kay brand ... but in any case I agree it does not look like a mandola.

Stromberg-Voisinet here (http://web.mac.com/ironbear_/bearpawfiddles/More_Mandolins.html) (scroll down) with the same body shape, simpler headstock profile, less ornamentation, for $500.
Manufacturer seems pretty well ID'ed. Vintage of the S-V listed as "c. 1920"; whether that's accurate or not, who knows? I'd guess a bit later.

Hi, I had him measure the scale length for me and it came to mando scale length. He has added a note that folks are telling him it is a mandolin.

Not bidding either, but up to $58 (most action in an ebay auction happens in the last hour). If you win please post on the sound and condition. I would say $70 is worth a good story or a mando to practice refurbing.

It's a Kay but not a mandola---They are kind of big and chunky with a deep body which would maybe be the reason for the confusion.
