Some time back (while Mandocrucian's Digest was still around), the inimitable Mr. Hokkanen devised a set of string gauges to set up a 17" scale as GDAEB (octave down from the mandolin + "high" B--don't trust my case to be significant). I even have that issue, but gods only know where....
I'm fairly sure I've seen it posted to the cafe, as well (possibly in an adusted form?), but I can't seem to find it now, even by a user-name search on "mandocrucian".
I've recently acquired an instrument specifically to apply this setup (I'll post a review when I've had it a bit longer). Anyone who can dig this out would earn a large helping of gratitude.
