I am not familiar with this model other than I think it was introduced around 1969 or early 1970. It has a solid scroll. How were these recieved by the mandolin public? Is the sound similar to the sound of the Gibson F models of the same era?

F12 may have been the F9 of its era, simplified, to keep the price down.
so not just like the top of the range.
Lump scroll or mouse ear I've heard as term used
You Got one,? Play it, Its the music making thats important after all..

just won't have the straphanger, , and all that bandsaw and hand labor.

Archives of course contain prior discussion of those too..

This (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/search.php?query=gibson+lump+scroll&exactname=0&titleonly=1&do=process) search has two threads about these mandolins.

These mandolins don't have a great reputation fro sound. I've played only a couple of them, but one of them had a really remarkable sound-- good tone and excellent volume-- pretty different from what I anticipated. It was for sale new in Liphams's Music in Gainesville, Florida in the old days. If I'd had $800 or whatever the price was, I'd have bought it no matter how it looked. But this was in our full-time-music period, and the economics of what we were doing prohibited keeping many extra instruments around!
