I'm returning to the mandolin after a forced break and was wondering if anyone had info on the Kentucky km-174? I know I prefer oval hole mandolins but none of my local shops carry this one. Any info would be great!

I purchased the Kentucky km-174 from Elderly last spring as a back-up instrument that I wouldn't worry about leaving in my tent at festivals. (My main instrument is also an oval hole - 1911 Gibson A.) I was amazed at the value for under $300. It was loud, good ring, well set-up by Elderly with consistent pitch and tone up the neck. Easy to play. The neck was a little thinner than what I was used to and what I preferred but I got used to it. And the tone quality, though loud and ringing, isn't real "woody," but it is certainly as good as the other mandolins under $300 that I have tried. Go for it!
