Though I'm struggling to be intentionally stealth and avoid the appearance of shameless self-promotion, the most recent submission from Don Julin in the audio support site for the "Getting Into Jazz Mandolin" book's PROFESSIONAL'S SOUND LAB (http://jazzmando.com/webtracks.shtml#1) is the epitome of jazz mandolin cool. The critically acclaimed Michigan mandolin master demonstrates one of the five "concept songs" for us:

Don Julin: http://jazzmando.com/images/sound.gifLydia O'Lydia (http://www.jazzmando.com/sound/DJ_Lydia.mp3)

For more information about this track and some of the other available free online artist's interpretations including Don Stiernberg, Mark Wilson, and Will Patton, read more here (http://jazzmando.com/new/archives/000905.shtml).

Don is a wonderful mandolinist and a VERY nice guy! I think the product you have produced Ted entitles you to some self promotional leeway (the fact that you are concerned about it is a refreshing personality trait!!) Super job!

Ted, this is great. Where else can I hear Don S., Will Patton and Don Julin all play their versions of the same tune? The fact that your excellent book is the reason for this beautiful music is a credit to you. If this kind of thing is self-promotion then more power to you!

Ted - Thanks for posting this. And yes, Don Julin's rendition is very cool. I listened to it on your web site several days ago and have been meaning to tell Don how great it is. Don J inspired me to pick up the mandolin, and this tune is an excellent example of his mellifluous style. I'm also looking forward to picking up your book Ted.
