There's a very well respected luthier in the North West of the UK - Ged Green of Cheadle,Cheshire. I've known of this guy for quite a while, but i haven't come across many players who've heard of him. He makes mainly electric instruments of VERY high quality, also superb Martin style acoustic Guitars as well as 'flat top' mandolins.
# He does repair work & also modifications. I'm putting this post on here because of the scarcity of luthiers local to Manchester.
# Ged's website is www.gedgreen.co.uk & pics.of his instruments can be seen there. Here's a couple of pics, from his site - the first being an electric Guitar with a rather familiar shape to one corner of it,

Yes,you're probably right on that Bill. It's just that with the instruments not being 'mine'
i'd feel as though i was being a mite dishonest 'by implication',

Many thanks Jamie - i hope that nobody will 'assume'that the instruments pictured are indeed mine,

Saska, that flat top mando looks very similar to one I saw in Hobgoblin in Manchester, built by Daniel Hoban. Here's a link to a thread I posted about that mando:

Do you know if there's any connection between Daniel Hoban and Ged Green? I know that Daniel is (or at least was last year when I tried out that mando) also based around the Manchester area and I think he said he was learning luthiery from someone in the area, I wonder if it's Ged that he's learning from?

Hi Fliss - I had heard that there was someone at Hobgoblin Music (Johhny Roadhouse) in Manchester that was making 'flat-top' Mandolins, but i haven't been down to check it out.
It might possibly be Ged Green that the guy you mentioned is learning from.Ged's a pretty well-established luthier & the only one i know of in the Manchester area. The Mandolin in he picture is one of Ged's own build of course. The only other luthier that i know of,is Richard Thompson in Wigan, also an excellent maker, but of electric instruments only as far as i know,

PS - I just followed your link to the Daniel Hoban Mandolin & YES - it could be the same instrument even. Apart from the shaping of the end of the fingerboard, they seem identical.

Cool instruments.

For a second I thought it was a typo for Red Green, who might have made one out of duct tape, the handyman's secret weapon. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
