1. Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys
2. Stanley Brothers
3. Johnson Mountain Boys
4. Al Batten and The Bluegrass Reunion (the only one still around)
5.Jimmy Martin and The Sunny Mountain Boys

When it comes to bluegrass, it either has to be traditional, or not. The stuff in between sounds good, but I just really like traditional BG.

I wish Dudley would consider asking the band to get together and do a series of "reunion" shows, perhaps another recording....

Someone asked him about that at this year's Joe Val Festival (actually I'm sure he gets asked about it quite often) and he replied that he just had no interest at all in doing a JMB reunion show/tour/recording. Not that he doesn't enjoy playing with those guys (Seneca Rocks - a band he formed and was part of from about 2003 to 2007 - was basically 4/5 of the late 80's JMBs plus Sally Love), but more that he feels he has done that hard driving, traditional bluegrass music - done it about as well as it can be done - and doesn't want to try to revisit it after all these years. So I doubt I'll ever see a JMB reunion, as much as I would love to.

2) Bill Monroe & the Bluegrass Boys (original band inc. Flatt & Scruggs)

FYI, the original BG Boys lineup did not include Flatt & Scruggs. They joined several years after Monroe split up with his brother Charlie to form his own band. Still, the one with Flatt & Scruggs is the seminal bluegrass band tha defined the sound and the style, so it is original in that sense.
