I recently stashed a beater mandolin in my overhead shelf at work (I have a day job). So what I've been doing is grabbing my lunch and my mandolin and walking to a nearby park for some sunshine and practice. I come back to work, a bit late, refreshed and ready to go. I wish I would have thought of it sooner.

I do that all the time. I've got my Epiphone MM-30 at work and you'll find me in a park often enough. Meet the nicest people that way. I've been known to close my office door when it is just too @@#@@$$%% hot.

I bring my mando to work quite often. When it's nice out I head over to Centennial Park, when it's too hot, cold, or wet, I pick quietly in my office.

I work from home, so I got all my mandolins stashed at work http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Since I'm a remote employee, I don't have nearly as many meetings and "walking down the hall" ambushes that my co-workers have. I also get to flex my work hours a bit. So, in addition to the 1 or 2 hours I get in at night I'm playing a mando during the gaps in my work day.

Oh yeah, I get to see my kids more often too...LOL. I know this situation won't last forever, so I'm making the most of it while I can.

I used to bring my Sweet Pea or Fluke Uke to work to play in my car at lunch. Now there's no room with the second car seat, and the steering wheel gets in the way up front. Maybe I need to start up again playing it outside...

I work in a Class A cleanroom most of the day so no time for playing mando...but I do have plenty of time for threads like this!!!

I keep my bowlback stashed under my desk, but it comes home with me at the end of the day http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

My mandolin and I serenade a data center full of servers each day from 12:00 to 1:00. I thought everyone had a mandolin at work. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

I have a four hour lay-over and a locker at work. My el cheapo Fender is always there. All of my practice time is at work. One of the downsides to working in transportation I guess.

I keep my two point at work for lunch practice. Fortunately, I have a private office.

Right next to my desk. Too busy to play much, though.

I carry mine in and out every day this time of year. My duties allow varying amounts of time for practise. As fall approaches, things will pick up. I hope to play come carols in the hospital commons area around Christmas.

Now that's a good idea I may put to use this Christmas ! I work 7 nights on 7 off usually 10-13 hrs /night at the hospital here in E-town ( 40 min South of Lou-ah-vul)- have brought my mando in a few times - but usually the moment I sit down with it, my pager goes off and I have to run off to ICU or ED. I work most of the evening by myself so my playing wouldn't bother anyone but me. I may consider keeping a beater here for those rare 15 min stretches when I could be eating - 15 mins of Mando would be far better for my health than my usual dinner fare http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There's a reason that folks buy "The Hondo".

Well I guess its time I made my first post here.

I've had my first Mandolin for about 2-weeks, and I am still trying to make my fingers work on the notes and cords. #If it ever gets to the point of making something besides what makes my dogs run, I think I'll start bringing my Mandolin to work also. #It sounds like a pleasant way to spend some of my lunch.

Like I said, this is my first Mandolin and I'm just starting to learn how to play. #The only other instrument I've ever own'd is an old Stella Guitar that my Grandfather bought me when I was 7 or 8 years old, and I never did more with it than play a few notes. #I'm 52 now and I'm seriously wanting to make something besides skreetching noises. #Well all I can do is keep working at it.

I just started bringing my mandolin to work this week. What an innovative use of time-management, I thought. Like all good ideas, I see someone has already thought of it. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I have several mandolins in my office. It's always a shame when work interferes with my music.

I have a Rogue F hanging on the back of my door, I play some at work. I have it hanging there more of as inspiration. I work for Mandolins and Mandolin accessories....

Count me in. I can usually find a few minutes here or there to work on some musical idea, though at work I use thumb and index fingers rather than a pick for quietness.

I used to take my banjo, but you know that just doesn't work with work!

I've got a mando here at work. #I thought I'd get more of a chance to play than I do. #Maybe I should use the time I spend on the Cafe?

The best place to keep my mando happens to be in plain sight. #Leads to questions that embarass me since I'm not very good. #But I'm almost to the point that I may just whip it out and slap a (slow) version of Fisher's Hornpipe on 'em!

This year I had my mando stashed at school! I had a class that was an unsupervised practice period, an automatic A. I practiced faithfully despite having zero supervision. I also played a few times in class toward the end of the year, which was new for me to play in front of people, especially my peers. In general my classmates were so fascinated that my "ukulele" can produce such a sound and play something as complex as Bach that I could have screwed up and they wouldn't have noticed.

I keep my Kentucky oval-hole at work. I am often too busy to play, but having one at work allows me to be spontaneous.

I keep a mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and a tenor banjo at work. I love my job, though sometimes I forget what it is exactly. Thanks Taxpayers.:D

drmole, we work similar schedules. I'm three on, Sunday off, three on, all nights. We're fairly busy delivering babies all year round, but when pneumonia, COPD, RSV, and post-op ventilators aren't keeping me running (and ER), I pull up B***o Hangout on the net and learn a new old timey fiddle tune or two. Bet you can guess my field now.
