View Full Version : Just laminated my binding and it's messy

I'm doing my first build (stew-mac F5) and I laminated the pieces of binding last night. I tried not to be sloppy with the acetone but there are a number of places where the black inner binding melted and "bled" a little onto the white strips.

Is there a technique other than scraping with a razor that I can use to clean up the binding? Thanks a million!

Are you laminating for top lines or sidelines?
For sidelines unless you've really melted things you should be able to use a razor to scrape the laminate level to the main piece and all the smeared and melted stuff will disappear.
However you say it's a Stewmac kit and I guess they don't supply celluloid binding which is all I've ever worked with. If it's ABS, you have to find out for yourself or wait for someone else who is familiar with it.

One more thing.
If you get Duco cement and thin it with acetone you can get it to be pretty runny but still clingy and you can keep it on the binding better. I use a paper towel to wipe off the excess so it doesn't sit there and turn it all to gel.
