Interesting scroll and headstock. I'ld like to see closer photos of the scroll.

The largest size it shows available is only 292x639. Still not very big.
I think it is nice looking instrument. The scroll looks a bit like a tightly wound Monteleone style scroll.

That's a beauty! What kind of wood is the back made from? I have an 'exotic wood' Ibanez guitar that looks a bit like that. Personally I think 'exotic wood' is just a way of saying 'we cut it across the grain so the pattern would look wierd' - but I'd love to know otherwise.

All the credit for the carving goes to Jamie Wiens. The mando is Dan Beimborn's Wiens 23.

Plenty more pics at mandolinarchive.com/wiens/serial/23 (http://www.mandolinarchive.com/perl/show_mando.pl?3643)

I believe its maple but I am not 100% sure
Eric built me a 'A" oval hole about 2 years ago and I am just thrilled with his work

I will post pics when it is delivered
as for pic size, not much I can do till its in my hands as the pics eric sent me will not hold up to enlargeing

I really like the scroll design and the headstock...it all seems to fit together. Does your A style mando have a similar headstock design?

Is the scroll closed or open or is it just a hole in the middle you can run a strap through? For my eyes, the back wood appears to be a quilted maple of some sort. My extensive training as a microbiologist and computer nerd should qualify that assesment!

Very nice, Bmoas. Years ago I remember running across pictures of mandolins on Ithaca strings website and really liking their interpretation of the "norm". Especially shows up in Eric's take on the scroll. Tasty.
