It's an A-12. Gibson made them for a short time in the late 60's early 70's.

I think that is an A-5, I'm pretty sure the ones with f-holes were A-12's

Lumpy or Mickey Mouse scroll (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=48196;hl=mickey+and+mo use) photos seen here. (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=13;t=47279;hl=lump+and+scro ll) Not really my cuppa tea. If there's a closed scroll I prefer the look of this one. Shame on me. With the latest run of re-stickered Johnsons being passed off as vintage Gibsons, I thought it had to be one of those. Guess I'm getting cynical.

I wouldn't want to offend anyone on the cafe who has one of these and likes it, but if I were Gibson, I'd buy these up just to get them out of the public view! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I Googled three pix of A-12's, and all had f-holes. Not definitive, but I'd say this 'un is an A-5.

Not the apex of Gibson's luthiery, perhaps, and that neck looks pretty rough. Wouldn't go $1.5K for it, Gibson or no.

That is indeed the newly designed A5 of the early 70's.
Sounds worse then it looks. Make excellent wall hangers.

Yup a-5 all the way i dont know about the sound but the ones with the f holes the a-12's dont sound bad.
