Yes, I did the unspeakable. And purchased a new to me mando. #2003 Collings MF-5. #She's a sweetie. #And speaks to me, and my style perfectly. # Sounds good with a group, and I'm proud to own it.
EDIT.....ok, apparently I cant use Flickr links..and I cant use photobucket....so, we wait til I can figure out the pic posting scheme...my apologies
20 minutes later...no luck...ok, well, if your really interested. #pics are on my
MYSPACE PAGE. (http://www.myspace.com/tangograss)
Ok, not even attach a file works....so again, I reiterate, myspace.
Mods: please feel free to delete to move this thread , as its purpose has not been fulfilled. #thanks.

What's the serial # ? Mine is 101 from the same year as yours. They are a great mandolin, I know you'll enjoy it. Play it pretty, now!

Another trick with Flickr is when you try and paste in an image like this
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3023/2462325226_bf19bd00dc.jpg?v=0
It has some extra characters at the end (?V=0) drop those and the image works using the image button like this
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3023/2462325226_bf19bd00dc.jpg in the image field yileds

Hey Chris - welcome to the Collings Club. Are you going to be at Darrington? We definately need to get together and pick some.
Mine is S/N #39 from 2003.

These early MF5s are something else. I own #69 built in 2003. I heard that the first 80 or so were built by Bill Collings hisself. Any truth to this?

I'd like to compile a list of all the Collings people on the list, maybe if you all like the idea you could send me the #'s and years, models etc offline and I could put it together.

Beautiful, Chris. Thanks for the links.....
South Austin still rocks. Even with all the changes, the once and future Electric Bubbaland.

I think this should be done on the list so it is public.

That was my plan, thought I'd make a list and somehow get it out, whether I posted the doc. to the list or sent it out to the interested parties

Nice MF5
A rather late response to the 'Collings People List' request. Anyhow, here it is.

Another late entrant ... MF5 #160 which shipped from Collings in Oct 2003. I've had it only a short while (new old stock) - great, great mandolin. So, it looks like Collings started shipping mandolins in 2002 - correct? Does anyone know if they keep records as to who worked on a given instrument? Just curious who was working in the shop at the time.

I think Bill was working in the shop in 2002.

Thanks, mandopete. That's what I've heard as well. Was also wondering whether Stefan Passernig was still there in 2003.

I visited the shop a couple of years ago and I got the impression that they kept detailed notes on each instrument they made.
I've entered the last 2 instruments. Drop me a line if anyone wants to see the list. There are only 9 on it right now so I thought I'd wait a little longer before getting it out there.
