1931 Martin mandocello. There were only 2 rosewood C2 mandocellos listed in the Longworth book. This one predates those two by a year. It built on a C2 or 000 size Brazilian rosewood guitar body with a Andirondack spruce carved arched top. I finally had the tailpiece repaired and strung it up today. Its a fabulous sounding and playing instrument! Sorry, its not for sale.

It looks like it has a wonderful neck. I like big necks. They give an extra bit of sound (on guitars anyway).

Very very cool. I love my old Martin O-18T, and it's a comparatively humble instrument...That thing must be out of this world.

A beautiful looking instrument! Please post a photo of the arching, Im really curious about the depth of the arch, and a sound clip would be marvelous,

Nice one. Bet it can blast away a guitar with its rumble!

Charles, what is the scale length?

Thanks for all the kind comments. I have been traveling a bit so I was unable to check out the m'cello again until today.

Scale length is 25 1/2 inches. The top is definately arched but not a pronounced arch. I'll try to past a pic below. No sound clip yet as its at my luthier getting a set up.

best regards,
Charles

Scale length is 25 1/2 inches.
IMHO that makes a lot more sense than the shorter 24 inch Gibson scale.
