I am trying to improve the Wikipedia articles on the instruments that I am interested in, and find myself short of images to illustrate some things.
First, the rules: for me to use them, they have to either be public domain images (basically, old photos and scans of catalogs from 70+ years ago), or images that you own, and are willing to release under the GFDL license. For you to own the picture, you must have taken it yourself, or had it taken for you under hire. Downloading it from that really neat website you liked doesn't count. When you upload the image, either state why you believe that it is public domain, or specifically state "I, Fillin T. Blank, created this picture, and am releasing it under the GFDL license."
Images that I am specifically interested in are:
Mandobass
Mandocello
Mandola
Piccolo Mandolin
Army-Navy style mandolin
odd-style mandolins (bandolims, bandolins, etc).
illustrations of typical bracing patterns
any interesting shots detailing typical construction
Pictures of Gibson, Loar, or any other person significant in mandolin development
anything you think is of historical importance
any similar pictures of banjos are welcome, but should probably be e-mailed to me with the same information
If you are relatively computer literate, feel free to go ahead and upload them to Wikimedia commons (complete with the licensing information) and just leave me a note about what you did.
