I fit a fossilized walrus tusk upper portion to the top of my A4's adjustable ebony bridge, and it seems fine ,
you talking an insert in the top of what would be a one piece bridge, instead?

Does wood have a favorite kind of music? do you distress it to force it to answer the question? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Maple likes bluegrass, black walnut, and rosewood also, but they are all butted to the back of the line by ebony, which gets first choice in music.

Ivory doesn't really seem grassy to me. Of course it's how you play the instrument that determines the musical style, but it won't sound like Bill's Loar with ivory.
