Hi all.
I have been playing music since I was eight years old, and the mandolin for around three years (I am 27). I feel that I have come a good way with it. I currently have a Morgan Monroe MMS-8W mandolin. But I am beginning to think about getting me a more high quality instrument. I am really looking into a Mowry mandolin (www.mowrystrings.com). The point is that I live in Iceland and have no chance of trying one out. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif #Does anyone have any experience with Mowry mandolins ? #And is this maybe too soon for me ?

I love my Mowry mandolin (see this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=41758;hl=mowry+and+bra d) among others). #Andrew is fun to work with, responds to questions thoroughly and promptly, and his mandolins are still a bargain (though his list is 2 years long now, I think). Oh, and his mandolins are the cleanest things you'll ever see. Easy to play, nice, rich, evolving sound, and he builds for all manner of playing styles, from Bluegrass to choro.

Never too soon for a great mandolin!

I have a Mowry Octave Mandolin and it's impressive - great tone, volume, playability. Fit and finish are exceptional.

I own instruments made by Collings, Martin, Taylor, BRW and Lebeda and I'd say the Mowry is possibly the best.

Good luck in your quest.

I am well pleased with my F5 Andrew Mowry built for me. I play it as much as I can. Its a dream to play. It plays great all the way up the neck, I got Andrew to set it up with a medium high action and medium size banjo frets. The tone and volume are everything I have ever wanted in a mandolin. I can say here and now Mr Mowry will build a mandolin that will allow you to play the most intricate pieces of music and produce a clean tone to boot. The fit and finish are amazing. These mandolins are very tastefully built and produce great tone.

Naaa. An upgrade in the quality of an instrument can only help your playing, your enjoyment, and your enthusiasm.

Besides, if it turns out you lose interest in the mandolin (I hear it happens every now and then), a quality mandolin will hold more value at resale.
