Great article.

Bill you should of left your picture off of this article. No offense, but you pale against pictures of Sharon. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Pictures are nice, but you should see her aura! The octave on her myspace tune #1 might be guitar shaped...funny the ways you sometimes find out about your childrens musical adventures...

"in spite of the large differences that exist between musical cultures- between Indian, Balinese, European, Middle Eastern, Chinese, and so on- every culture we know of has the octave as the basis for its music"
Daniel J. Levitin, 2006 This Is Your Brain On Music, Penguin Books Ltd.

I had never heard her play before. I checked out this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXPc7FikbbY)-- she's amazing! That mando sounds incredible, too. The sound quality of this is not the greatest, but her tone comes across as even better than Mike Marshall's (loar?). I see from the article that it's a '91 Gilchrist.

She really is an amazing musician. The last time I saw Rowan & Rice, Billy Bright was on mandolin. Sharon has it all, great picker and a lot easier on the eyes than Billy. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
