Does anyone here have their mandolin "souped" up to the point where they have; tone guard, arm rest, string grommets, and other goodies to increase tone and volume? Maybe a special bridge and tailpiece thrown in too boot?

I like the sound of the tone gard, but not the feel so much. Def arm rest. Joe Cleary made me one that aesthetically matches the design of my mando, & looks like it should be there. Helps w/ hand position & keeping arm off the front, & especially nice in the hot summer months.

My tailpiece takes care of needign grommets.

I use these as string Grommets. They seem to affect the volume and tone. I really just need more of the one on the bottom right.

I have mag wheels and a Weber carb, tuned exhaust and 50s on the back rims.

I don't know if all that Mr. Loar mentions are really that fancy. Depends on the mando you start with I suppose.

Of course I should talk - James TP, custom bridge with my new iii Mandolin, and a Tonegard - easier than losing twenty pounds.

The bridge and the Tonegard are probably the only "add -ons" that have an effect on "tone and volume". Playing my @$$ off for the last 12 months, 2-6 hrs a day has probably had a more demonstrable effect on my sound - well actually my entire Mandoln was an immense upgrade. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
