I started out playing a guitar with a round hole and a mandolin with 'ff' holes because that's the way bluegrasser's do it. After honing my musical ear and zeroing in on my playing preferences, I now find 'm playing a guitar with 'ff' holes and an oval hole mandolin. Maybe it's not me, maybe bluegrass got it wrong http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Since I don't play bluegrass anymore the same thing has happened to me. My favorite guitar is a 1930s Orpheum archtop with f holes and my favorite mandolin has an oval hole and isn't an A or an F.
