Or is it "grip" of Mowrys?

Anyway, here are some results of the last 1500 or so hours of labor. Enjoy, and thanks for looking! I've just updated my web site as well, with more construction photos and other miscellany.

gosh I love that two point...the pic of the blond two point was my desktop wall paper for months. I'm loving the funky big leaf.

Wow, you don't even need to crow about them, they speak for themselves. That, and how you're killing me with them makes me think a murder of Mowrys...

OK... maybe that was a bit much for an obscure plural. They still look awesome, Andrew.

Minds were made to be blown... what can ya say? Clean work baby... NICE! And great job with your sensible treatment/approach to the fingerboard extension.

Those look great, Andrew! Very nice bursts. So do you have a playpen in the shop yet? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Maybe it is a gaggle?

Andrew ---- no A's? I really dig the burst on the F5. I can't afford to look too long least I'll be tempted by the MAS bug. My Mowry is two years old this month and I'm still loving it. Diaper rash ----- just wait!!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Lp

Stunning, to say the least! Where do you get the trapeze tailpieces?

Apr-16-2008, 10:09am
Thank ye muchly folks! Austin, no playpen yet, but Will has been hanging out on the shop floor some. Finding the infant respirators is tricky, though. Last night I dreamt that he learned to crawl on his back like an inchworm, which should be good shop entertainment.

Lane, no As this batch, but I'm starting on an oval A hybrid this week, along with some other new models (new for me, that is).

Mike, the tailpiece is the guitar model from Stew-Mac, with some modification. I cut down and rethread the arms and replace the metal crossbar with the smaller ebony one. The ebony has a brass insert to protect it from the ball ends. I also drill out the hole for the endpin and drill a new screw hole below it.

Gorgeous instruments. I love the clarity of your stains. I can see through to the grain in even the darkest of them. But if you do that, how are you going to hide your mistakes? (answer: there aren't any)

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! That two point is so so so gorgeous. Loving the snowflake inlay on your website too, just noticed that the F5 had the Two point headstock :P Pretty sweet looking!

Jaw-dropping workmanship. A pleasure to look at and, I bet, to listen to or play...

Normally we use cloth diapers, but we're on the Pampers now to try to clear things up. Today we've thrown stomach flu and teething into the mix, just to keep things interesting, all on top of a six-month cold, of course. Good thing he's cute! Okay, I'll stop with the baby discussion. Just venting a little... I know enough to count my blessings.

Ditto what everyone else is saying. I'm late getting a chance to view the thread; not much more I can add that's even worthwhile.

I'd have to get out my dictionary and look up some more adjectives! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Keep up the great work Andy!

Beautiful, Andrew! The orders will be flowing in; glad I got in there before the rush. By the way, folks, these instruments sound good too! For the curious, the middle two of the four demo tunes on my Sound Click page are played on my Mowry A-5:

I'm pretty sure they aren't, but they look as shiny as glass.

No, they're French polished. You can some texture and swirls here and there in the right light (fluorescent shop lights), but outdoor light is pretty forgiving.

Awesome mandolins, man. I also love that two-point design. It's kind of like a Hendrix thing. I think if Hendrix played mandolin he'd play a Mowry.

Andrew, have you ever considered building some guitars as well ?

Baby talk is great, we love it around here !

A funny thing happened the other day. I screwed up an cutting an oval inlay template for the back of a guitar, and Dylan was in the shop and of course heard me say ' Dam, messed that up ' before sitting it aside. Now, everybody that comes into the shop, he takes by the hand and walks them over to that piece and says ' Dad messed this up'

watch what you say when the talking starts !!

Great work as usual Andrew, good to see and hear things are going well......

Well, my two point is here. I can tell you that the pictures don't do it justice, and of course, there's no way to share the sound--except to say that I can hardly wait to hear it as it matures, as good as it sounds already. Count me in as another happy Mowry owner.

My only regret is that I didn't have the foresight to take today off, and I'm here at work, and my mandolin sits at home. Bad decision!

Andrew,

I remember seeing some of these in the white when i visited you while skiing at Bachelor in February. It's simply too long a drive, so viewing all these finished instruments, makes me wish I could transport back to Bend to try out a few of these wonders. Incredible looking 2 point.

Andrew, a little hard-learned advice; we're about 9 years away from dealing with whole diapers issue, but I still remember it well. Be careful what the description outside the package claims. When it says "Size 3: 16-28 lbs," you just can't take them at their word...

It took my daughter about five days to fill them to 16 lbs, and by then, the rash was the least of our worries.

Ted, with stomach flu but an unhindered appetite, Will may fill his 16 pounders pretty quickly here (conversation going rapidly downhill)!

Jim, thanks and sorry I didn't have any completed mandos then. I'm working on an F5 and an octave to have here as permanent demos, but it's so hard to find time to work on them these days. You're welcome back any time, though!
