For the girls? What makes you think "the girls" would like that tacky number??? Huh? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I kinda expected someone would nail me to the wall with that sub-line, eventually. What I meant was that it would have to play like a darn great mando, and a fellow would need to feel darn sure of his own masculinity, to be seen playing that particular mando outside the privacy of his own bedroom.
Still, I think its rather purty. If I had a mando-playin' girl friend it would make an interesting Valentine's Day gift. Or, if I had a non-mando-playin' girl friend maybe she'd be intrigued enough to begin playing it. Maybe I should adjourn now to another chat-room...

I'm with elenbrandt-- I find it floofy and cloying at best. I am a player of real instruments, not of hallmark cards! I'd be as mortified to be seen playing it as most of the guys here. What would it say about me as a player/musician? That painted flowers and a heart shaped cut out are more important to me in an instrument than a decent top wood with uniform grain and a high quality acoustical finish?

no thanks!

I'm sure whoever made that thought it would appeal to "the girls"... but any serious musician would find this insulting, no matter what gender... would you guys buy a mandolin just because it had a picture of a monster truck on it? or a picture of a can of beer? or a rocket shaped sound hole? Of course not! And to expect so would be to buy into (and market to) stupid stereotypes, and would be equally insulting.

Of course, in our society, there are those who will sell and buy such things...some as a joke, and some just because they can. Personally, I'm not inclined to participate in that.

(For proper effect, you need to sing it... I'm hoping the above is funny even if you're *not* from Minnesota :-)

Depends on the beer...:p

It reminds me of a Martin guitar I've seen with a really tacky "old west" kind of scene painted on the soundboard. If you want something with a picture on it buy a calendar.

Every time I see Split Lip Rayfield and Jeff Eaton's 64 Ford Fairlane gas tank bass with the rocket shaped sound holes I thinK "A mandolin would look so cool with those".

monster trucks, beer cans, rocket shaped sound holes. Oh where will this end if nobody mentions those darn purty scrolly things and fleur de lis (did I spell that right?)
<ducking for cover>

This one's rather purty too. I stole the pic off Silver Angel's website. Gorgeous work Ken! It's a novel "canvas" you've chosen.

Hmmm... If it had a picture of a Lotus Elise on it, I might consider it. (But then again, the Elise has a Pac-Rim power plant, so that might invite additional derision.)

Just had a thought. The wheels for your beloved (and annoyingly loud) Harley-Davidson motorbikes come from here in Adelaide. They're shipped through Melbourne and Sydney... that would make them Pacific rim too!

These days it's probably sexist to suggest that a flowery mandolin with a heart shaped soundhole would be suitable for "girls" - maybe a REALLY, REALLY effeminent guy would like one.

I wish someone would buy this thing, and put it out of it's misery. I happen to own a pretty neet F style buy this maker, and I am ashamed to post a pic. or talk about it until this thing is gone and long forgotten.

What the heck is that http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif? ( Shudder ) I'd be afraid to pick it up and risk dermatitis from the craft paint coming in contact with my skin. Sorry, not to this girl's taste. I like my mandos as I like my men. Clean, polished, and not embarassing to hold. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Is it strange that this mandolin matches the interior of my grandmother's house?
