I will never forget the day that I had (HAD) to cancel my order with Bob. It would have been the older brother (sister) to JPs. I'm sure you are quite pleased with this mandolin and I wouldn't change one thing, not at all.

Congratulations!

Thanks for the positive comments. It's hard to believe that you don't hear about Bob's mandolins here on the cafe. For anyone looking for an F-4 with an F-5 neck, I don't think you'll find a better mandolin for the price. I haven't been able to put this one down since it arrived. This baby sounds and plays like a dream.

I remember a blind mandotasting posted here a few years back, and a Schneider was my favorite. #THIS is a strikingly beautiful mandolin..

Really nice, Jonathan. It is kind of surprising you don't hear more about him here because his work, at least visually (never played one), is pretty stunning. I'm sure it sounds pretty great too. Have fun with it.

Is it brand new?

Outstanding Jonathan! Does it have the hybrid tone?

Hey PJ,

I'm not sure how else to say it, except for that it has all the desireable qualities of an F-5 and an oval hole mandolin at the same time. It sounds alot like my Kimble (built before Will switched to Loar graduations), except with more sustain and overtones. I love the dynamic range on this hybrid, it is soooo effortless to deploy and I think that this hybrid is more expressive than an F style.

If you took clarity, bell like trebles and added sweetness and the big round sound of an oval and then scaled it back to have the bite and focus of an F, you'd have the Scneider hybrid. I guess you can tell I like it alot http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That is a nice looking mandolin. I'll best she plays as well as she looks.

Hey Bob,

The picture was sent to me by the person I got the mandolin from. I just assumed that you had taken it http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Could you give us some details on the woods used? I have a vested interest in Bob Schneider mandolins... like I have one on order now... just curious to see what customizations you may have ordered. What about nut width? Is it laquer or varnish finish? What type of tuners did you get?

I got the mandolin second hand and I don't know the particulars. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Call the builder. The builder will let you know what woods s/he can get, etc. You will typically be able to specify nut width, fret wire, fretboard radius, peghead inlay, binding type and color. Bob Schneider uses varnish for these hybrids, buy maybe you could specify lacquer, you'd just have to ask. The starting point is to call the builder and learn about deposit, lead-time and other details as well.
