Oh yes -- everyone needs a logo these days, so here's ours, courtesy of a dedicated volunteer (sorry, I don't remember who!):

Not only do we have a logo, here's the official blurb that I unofficially wrote and posted around the internet:

Boston Co-Mando Summer Gathering: Sunday, June 27th, 2pm (till we're done), Salem Willows Park, Salem, MA. Bring mandolins and other acoustic instruments, food or drink to share with others (alcohol is official prohibited in the park), and family members who might like to play on the beach or at the arcade. All styles of music and levels of playing are welcome and encouraged.

btw, this is not restricted to Boston residents, it is really kind of a northern New England, or all New England gathering. #I will be coming down from Maine, I believe some will be coming from Conn. and Rhode Island, maybe even up-state New York, so don't feel excluded...judging from last gathering, some nice people and some nice instruments should be in attendance...

and you can come earlier than 2 pm, someone should be there from noon on...we have an alternative location in Salem in the event of rain, stay tuned...

I'll be in the Boston area (Belmont) this weekend. If I'm not tied up with family stuff, maybe I'll drive up to Salem. It'd be nice to say hi to some of you fine folks. I'll be mando-less but given how little time I've had to play over the past several months, that might be just as well.

Bob, sounds like there will be extra mandos, maybe even extra picks....

Don't worry Bob, you can play four of mine. . . .

Hey everybody, I just got back from Salem Willows- figured I'd check out the site in advance, and also take my girlfriend's nephew to the arcade. There is a beach there for swimming, and arcade games (played some serious skeeball ) and lots of boardwalk type food stands.

It's a fine place for kids to play, wander, eat, etc.

I am going on the assumption that I will be able to buy some food there, rather than pack a lunch....sound right?

I'll be there on Sunday!

Might be bringing the family along too - sounds like there is lots of stuff to do at Salem Willows. The weather looks like it will be perfect as well.

Oh yeah - I'm the dedicated volunteer who designed that Bo-Mando logo http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i would like to ask if there are any luthiers out there coming tom. please bring your stuff (at least some files). i would love someone to look over my mando. still haven't gotten in to see anyone, and concerned about nut and bridge slots or other issue that has caused breakage of the strings.

Hi Bo-Mandos,

Sorry I can't make this one. I have a gig out in Western CT.

Why did it have to be this date? It is particularly frustrating because my home is walking distance from the Salem Willows.

Well, have a great time and I'll catch you all at the next one.

bomandofest 2 was alot of fun. thanks for letting me play all of your amazing instruments (now i really can post on the brw thread http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

my favorite thing to try was the lyon and healy. the scroll peghead (violin style) was so funky. also liked the old gibson mandola (booooooom), and even got to try a mandobird!

lots of fun. as you know i'm not a bg picker, but did my best to chop away on my folky little axe as long as someone told me the chords (thanks dave).

anyway- alot of fun, and i look forward to the next time!

peace bomandoists,

It was great fun, wasn't it? I loved getting to try that Nugget, talk about responsive. And, just as everyone was leaving David Reiner (I think)pulled out a Brentrup A style. This instrument had an amazingly complex and woody sound and it is such a versitile instrument. I should mention that he's got it listed in the classifieds and I'd be serioulsy thinking about it if I weren't already on Hans' list.

Jun-28-2004, 10:09am
I second that motion, I do believe complex would definetly be a word used in the description of that Brentrup A. Not only did it sound amazing but it absolutely looked stunning. I agree with Clayton on this one. If I didnt have a mando on order already Id be sooooooooo takeing that brentrup home.

Gee, I didn't know Dave had brought the Brentrup...I left too soon....made it home before dark, obvious poor planning. I liked that Nugget (think I may have used the "L" word to Rich in an intemperate moment), but on further playing time and reflection and check book balancing, I also very much like my Kimble, and my Phoeni...
and the funny thing is, when we were all playing, I tended to forget just what was in my hands ('ceptin I did have to back off my chops with the Nugget, it was speaking up a bit too much, which would maybe have been OK if I could play better)...

hey, at least you weren't fakin it. i dont remember the last time i tried a chop chord- wow did my pinky get a work out, much less try a bg break!

btw- mr. i ampeterfonda- great to meet you. your geniality and willingness to let me watch your hands for the cahnges really made for an even better day (and thanks for the nice words about goin down the road).

Actually what made it a great day for me was the patience and encouragement of the more experienced players. Also, I think everyone brought something to the experience to share. So many different styles. I really dig the stuff you're doing Ira.

Hey everybody, I was squeezing the gathering in between other committments, but I'd love to do it again- and I'd love to use Salem Willows as our gathering spot, it's very convenient for me, personally!

But anywhere we meet is fine, and there's no reason not to do it again sometime in July or August- even if it's festival season, there will be some of us around on any given weekend.

I have never seen or heard a mandolin as magnificent as Rich's Nugget- as far as I was concerned, we had some great instruments there, but the Nugget was in a class by itself.

If it wasn't breaking one of the Ten Commandment's, I'd be coveting my neighbor's mando already!

Steve Pierce's mandolins were also great- he'll be a luthier to watch in the future.

see you all later this summer, I hope,

Neal

It sounds like a great time. Sorry I wasn't able to get there. I was tied up with family stuff. You guys, no doubt, had more fun on a beautiful Sunday afternoon than I did.
