Can this be for real? Brian Dean's very first mandolin has landed at an *Bay pawn shop?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Listed on *Bay as item 230239666530 (to avoid the endless link). http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

It doesn't seem all that odd that the instrument should change hands and ebay is certainly one very common way to sell.

Hard to believe that such a humble looking instrument would lead to the eye popping work he's doing now.

I recently read an interview with him from a couple of years ago. He didn't seem proud of his first one. He said the top was too thin and not braced well, which goes along with the ebay description of inward bowing of the top. Comparing his description of it with the BD I bought in 2006, he's improved vastly.

Hey, gotta start somewhere!
But that instrument clearly does not hold a candle to the stuff he's doing now.

Sleepy, I don't think anyone is confusing him with Neil Dean. Brian Dean makes spectacular instruments. You might check out his Web site. (http://www.labraid.ca/index.php)

Funny... Neil is a nice guy and a good maker as well but he has been out of action lately and I don't any where hear him being touted as bringing more money than his cousin Brian. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Anyway it is probably news to Neil that he is raking it in.

No apologies needed. If you look at my avatar, you can see that I think highly of my Brian Dean mandolin.
