Here's number 5 http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif Claro walnut with red spruce top and flamed maple bindings. Eastern walnut neck with wolf tracks inlaid up the fretboard and one large track inlaid in the trussrod cover. All french polished except the pickgard and armrest.

Yes it is an armrest. I wanted to protect the french polish with the armrest and finger rest. Both are made from the same claro walnut.

That is beautiful wood! How does it sound?

I think it has a woodier sound. It's my favorite so far. I have always liked the guitars I built with walnut.

Congratulations on the mando. #I prefer a little more woody sound to a bright cutting sound also. #I don't play with a b@nj$ anyway.

I just knew you were going to say, "It howls, man!" http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Oh yeah, I love the wolf tracks. That's a great idea to have them walking up the neck. Really cool.

Yeah nice job on the wood binding! Tell us about the adventure of bending around that scroll button........Jamie

Booger, Booger, Booger! That would be how I would describe Flame Maple and a scroll button http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Some sort of flame either maple or koa is about all I use anymore. I get a big bunch of strips and use a soldering iron for a pipe. When I'm finished I have a lot fewer strips left.

Gorgeous!

Are both the front and back of the headstock veneered? From the (too far away) side view, it looks like a walnut outside layer over a maple inner layer?

Yes, both sides are claro over maple.I use that sometimes instead of binding the headstock. It gives a nice crisp line and is something a little different.
