Last winter, this Brazilian genius's name came up on the MC discussion board and Scott was kind enough to give us a tender sample of the 10 string wizardry. I rushed out to Caravan's website after scouring the internet for his music. Four months later I received my order (these imports take SOME patience...), but it was truly worth the wait.
Now I notice Amazon.com has the same (self-titled) album Hamilton De Holanda (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006BC67/qid=1087698777/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/002-2987613-0317664?v=glance&s=music) and you can read my review on the site. Plus they even have a few in stock.
Think a Brazilian "Chris Thile."
This is major stuff! Choro, yum. #A must have...

Ted, good review. I wish more mandolin players would do this on amazon.com. I once observed Stiernberg's CDs didn't have reviews on them once. Haven't looked in awhile so maybe this has changed. Hamilton is yet another example of a great mandolin player somewhere in the world where we have difficult access to his music so he doesn't have the name recognition.

Had Grisman never published the Jacob do Bandolim recordings, would we be listening to all of this now? Hard to tell. He really started something there.

Just recieved my copy from Amazon. #This is my first exposure to this style of mandolin playing and it is really impressive. #The different beats and band instrumentation opened up a whole new appreciation. Hamilton is an awesome player with lots of style and very clean at warp speed.

Thank you for the superb recommendation!

This guy is great... think Jacob do Bandolim and Evan MArshall rolled into one...

I like the 10 string full chord voicing...

He played an Ovation at one time.. yup it's true
