Steve Smith and Hard Road played at the Pinch and Swallow saturday night, Steve was playing his fresh Ellis which sounded great thru the akg condenser, was not able to get a clear shot of his right hand because of the extremely rapid movement in the dim light. While its true that theres no money above the 5th fret, there sure is a ton of tone and power a full octave above the 5th with this fine instrument. What an upgrade from his oldwave bar beater!

Great pic! I knew he was getting one sometime soon. I'm sure it sounded AWESOME in his hands. But don't short change yourself Bill....his OW A5 is a mighty powerful manalin! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Steve is an exceptional player. If you haven't heard him, do yourself a favor and get one or two of his recordings. You won't be disappointed! (NFI and all that good stuff.....)

I think that makes it three Ellis' in New Mexico now which would make NM the highest Ellis per capita in the US. All sold by Mr. Bill, I guess Tom's giving you a kickback http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Is this the same Steve Smith as the Cumberland Acoustics Steve Smith?

I tell ya, if that were mine I bet I wouldn't play it out in a bar. Too big a financial risk for me. I'd WANT to take it out, that's for sure.

Here's some snapshots I took of Steve's mandolin before I sent it.

At least he's holding it. Last night I was in a bar and Sharon Glichrist left her Gil sitting in it's case on a table with nobody around and she was in another area where the crowd was. I kept staring over at it in disbelief. It was near the door even.

Tom, You've outdone yourself again. Now that New Mexico is the Ellis mandolin capital we need to have an Ellis get together http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

PJ - I would have been sorely tempted to tell Sharon Gilchrist how I had just saved her mandolin from being stolen by a bunch of thieves. All with the hopes of her showering me with gratitude.

Hey Tom,

Are you using that new truss rod cover on all of your new mandolins? I saw the same one in a Smoky Mountain Guitars ad.

Chris, he's sending them out to all of us "older" Ellis owners http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
