I have been asked to build a 10 string Brazilian style bandolim, and would like to find out if anyone has information or plans with complete specifications, bracing design, etc.

I would also like to know of any sources for the tuners and tailpiece - I can't seem to find anything for ten stringers.

Thanks in advance!

Deval (http://www.deval.com.br/novo/produtos_lista.asp?cd_marca=12) might be a hardware source.

For some looks at Hamilton's mandolin, check here (http://jazzmando.com/trcio_ribeiro.shtml).

There are a lot of options for the tuners, including the ones from Deval. You can also make 5/plate gears by cutting up an extra set of your preferred brand very carefully slicing the plate through a screwhole. Done well, this is a very subtle and substantial solution. If you're only doing one mandolin, you'll have a wrecked second set, but if you make more, you have plenty of parts for the next ones.

Better yet, go hear the guy play! He tells a wonderful story about why he had a 5-course made. There wasn't much precedent for it until he found a real need for one. He certainly knows what to do with one. Usually guys with that much technique put me off because it's so much about technique, and not much about music. He has brilliant musical ideas, every blinding little note means something. He has a live solo album that I highly recommend:
