Recently, Mr. Vance contacted me about getting a Mandocello guitar.

We're happy with the results.

Wow, that top is something else! I also like the serpentine bridges on your larger mando family instruments. Great!

Thanks, Rick! Whoo! Pretty cool!

OK, here come the questions ...

Is this one of your std guitar bodies with neck/hardware adapted to eight strings, or is it a whole new body?

How deep is the body? How wide is the lower bout?

Scale length? Again, one of your std guitar lengths or....?

What's the nut width? And what are the string sizes?

It's very beautiful.

Thank you!!

Geez Rick, I wish you'd stop posting beautiful pictures of instruments beyond my finances. They sure look good though. Did you ever find the perfect pint?

Dennis has recorded a sound clip, and you can hear it right here (http://www.themandolinstore.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=8382).

Cool!
Dan Albright (http://www.cherokeeanddutch.com/page/page/4379925.htm), our shop utility-man. He can fret, fit necks, sand, detail-- just about anything. He's also a decent photographer.

A little of column A, a little of column B. It is our Mandocello neck, but there are some slight adaptations we make to our guitar body for voicing.

How deep is the body?

3 3/8" is the depth of the rib. The carving adds about 3/4" to the top and the back.

How wide is the lower bout?

15"

Scale length? Again, one of your std guitar lengths or....?

24 3/4". Same as our Mandocellos.

What's the nut width?

1 11/16".

And what are the string sizes?

These are the strings we use for our cellos. (http://www.daddario.com/DADProdDetail.aspx?CodaID=728&ID=5&Class=AFPA)

As always, stv- Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

No, BUT-

On Saturday night, I had a Kettle House (Missoula, MT) Scotch Ale in Big Sky while standing at arms' length from Andy Falco (playing with the Infamous Stringdusters). I had another when Tim O'Brien and Co. took the stage.

Those two, when you consider the venue and the performances (not to mention the complexity of the beer), came VERY close.

It has been a rewarding search, but I'm not done yet.

Hi Rick!!!

Thanks for your patience and for the details! Wonderful!

Rick replied thusly:

STV: Is this one of your std guitar bodies with neck/hardware adapted to eight strings, or is it a whole new body?

RickB: A little of column A, a little of column B. It is our Mandocello neck, but there are some slight adaptations we make to our guitar body for voicing.

OK, so I take this to mean ... um... "voicing"... would suggest that the bracing, perhaps the top carving might have changed, but that the dimensions of the body are the same, izzat right?

Rick, I'd say your boy Dan Albright is a very good photographer! Quite the go-to guy! Kudos to Dan.

Many thanks, and congrats on yet another beautiful instrument!

I'll pass that along; he'll appreciate it.

Thanks.
