View Full Version : Double octave mandolin

I just finished my new instrument. I call it a double octave mandolin. It is tuned two octaves below a mandolin. That makes it easy for a mandolin player to play bass parts. It has a 30 inch scale.

What's the gauge of that G string?
Do you play this machine with a pick like a mandolin or with fingers like a bass?
I wonder how the faster bass lines can be managed with a fifth tuning - lots of left arm moves I suppose?
