I heard that piece. My pal Joel Eckhaus was in town and we were driving to a gig when it came on and we just pulled over and sat in a parking lot and listened. He said one interesting thing I'd never heard before, which was how he compared soloing on a clarinet versus soloing on a guitar: you have to stop and breathe when you're playing a clarinet, which means you have to shape your phrases differently than when you can just pump out notes relentlessly, as you can do on a string instrument. I thought it was a really deep observation, and explains his guitar style quite well.
