Hello all, I am a new member here and a new mandolin enthusiast and am looking to buy an inexpensive mandolin. I saw an older looking one that had "Dixon" on it at a pawn shop and it was priced at $80.00. It does need strings, and it looked alright to me, though I know not much about them.

I've looked and looked on the web and can find no information about Dixon mandolins, except for Anthony Dixon in the UK, and I'm pretty sure it's not made by him. Someone said it may have been made in Japan some years ago.

Does anyone here know anything about it? Thanks so much,

Cincy

Dixons were made in Japan in the 1970's. Nothing special, but if it's stable, 80 bucks probably ain't bad.

Hi and thank you for replying. I may get it, I don't know yet. I've been looking at others also. Thanks, again.

You know Cincy, you are not going to get much for $80.

Hey Cincy....are you actually FROM Cincy? I'm an old Over-The-Rhine kid. Grew up there in the '70s...got out with my skin! Mando content? My Dad gave me my first mando (Kingston) in '77 on Elm Street, where we lived next to the Music Hall.
