I anxious to hear this (http://www.jp-cormier.com/webstore/index.html) recording by JP Cormier. It is called "Times 8...a mandolin collection and is a mix of traditinal Cape Breton style tunes mixed in with some bluegrass standards etc...

For those of you that are unfamiliar with JP Cormier, he is a multi-instrumentalist and former Nashville sideman with such notable artists as Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt and Kitty Wells (stolen from his website).

JP's uncle Joe Cormier is a noted Cape Breton style fiddler based out of Massachusset's native of the Cheticamp area. JP was born in London Ontario, he moved to the U.S. when he was about 16 and stayed for almost 10 years before moving permanently to Cape Breton,NS.

I don't know JP, myself, and have absolutely nothing to gain from his recording - just an exciting mandolin development!

The album is out in 4 days . . . I can't wait.

I'd like to hear that.

His fiddle and guitar flatpicking (playing fiddle tunes) is outstanding. His wife Hilda Chiassant is also one of Cape Breton's top piano players.

Similar sentements - I haven't got that album, but I've heard some JP Cormier, and he is a great guitar flatpicker/fiddle player, so I reakon he'd be well worth listening to on the mandolin...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I just got JP's new album ( X8) and it's a fine piece of work. This is a rare mandolin album with a Cape Breton/Celtic/Bluegrass flavor and highlights the talents of a multi-instrumentalist.(NFI)
