On my Kentucky mandolin I noticed that the off-white plastic trim around the fret board is cracked in several places along the bottom. Each crack coincides with a fret. It looks like the plastic cracked when they were putting the frets in. Is there a way to replace that plastic trim?

Yes. Do you want to try it yourself or are you thinking of taking it to a repairman?
You can order the binding from several different sources. Does the fretboard have a squared off end or is it an f-style with a florida? If it is squared off it will not be to tough if it has the florida you will have to bend it around.

My advice:
Just play it.
Unless the binding is replaced by a pretty darned good luthier, it is not likely to look very good, and "pretty darned good" luthiers usually don't work cheap.. There are also frets to consider. It is not a simple opperation to replace bindings.

Where online can I get binding?

You could ignore it till the refret.

the top edge, of course, would want the position markers redone in it too.

Really, your cheering fans will not hear the difference.

You can go to home page and the links are there for you for suppliers.

Luthiers Mercantile, (http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/Secondproducthead.asp?CategoryName=Bindings+%26+Pu rflings) or International Violin (http://www.internationalviolin.com/SearchByCategory.aspx?CategoryCode=121) orStewart MacDonald. (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bindings,_trim.html) There are other sources as well, I just happen to have those three suppliers bookmarked.
