You guys are seeing it first. I'm pretty pumped by the volume and tone. The new owner is going to love it, I think. Black Walnut back, sides, and neck, Sitka top. Case is going to be hard to find...

Think resonator tenor banjo.. How wide is the body?

Been watching a western (3:10 to Yuma) with the wife, no time for more pics!
It's 11" wide. Good lead!

If it's 11" wide think tenor banjo without a resonator. The standard Gibson Mastertone pot is 11" in diameter.

*coughback&sidepicscough*

btw, how was 3:10 to Yuma? I want to see it.

Also, do they have a truss rod, radiused fingerboard and wide nut width? Can you set them up with low action so I can shred real fast like chris thile? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Good morning Kidgloves.
Stop staring at me (who is that?)
More pics later, let me get my coffee.
Great movie, shoot 'em up with head games. I could say a lot more, but I don't want to spoil it. If you like westerns, you love it, it has everything.
Carbon fiber rod, I build necks right. Everything else is custom. There are very few "no" answers on custom instruments.

Here's the back. American Black Walnut from Indiana. This is the 4th mandolin/mandola from the same two planks that I bought two years ago. Flame maple binding, three-line purfling, rosewood fretboard and headplate.

Bone nut and bone bridge-top. Top-line Grover tuners

Dave, the binding is beautiful, and I love that walnut. # I love walnut in general and all the better it came from Indiana! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Beautiful work, well done, and thanks for the extra pix (there can never be enough, y'know... # #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

Thanks, (and for the movie review, too!)

Now that was not too painful was it?

I had to give Dave a hard time. He posted photos of an instrument he built several months ago on another forum and I don't think he ever did post pictures of the back. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Hey fatt-dad.
Bill, lets see a picture of your back! Does it have any figure?

Just round like the rest of me. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Dave I am just like most of the other gawkers here, I enjoy seeing well made instruments from several angles. They are inspiring to those of us who aspire to build ourselves.

Hi David,

It looks SO cool. Exactly the understated, elegant vibe (Kinda like my playing - at least the understated part!) I had in mind. I can't wait to play it. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas day.

David, Looks great. Will I get to see it before it ships out? I air-brushed some tinted laquer onto an A5 today. Lets get these pups together and pick! Pete

Okay, fess up.
What happened to the screw in the bottom tuner button?

That is so funny! I didn't see the missing screw till just now when you mentioned it. And yesterday I asked my son "where did this screw come from?" that I found by my keyboard where I took those pictures.
A mystery identified and solved.

Woo Hoo! It arrived this morning (had it shipped to my office) and is making concentrating on budget preparation even more difficult than usual! Even though the pictures above look nice, they don't begin to do it justice. Absoulely beautiful. I've only played a few quick tunes so far, but the sound is what I hoped for, woody, throaty & loud. More later.

David was fantastic to work with from start to finish. he's a talented craftsman and a great guy. If you're thinking of an Army/Navy style instrument you really should talk to him.

Hey David, do you want the t-shirt you wrapped it up in back? # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I couldn't find a pillow case. You'll have to drag it to your first jam in the t-shirt.

I'm happy that you are happy, Mark
