Nope, sorry, no one here is going to Wintergrass.

Sorry 'bout the sarcasm. This will be the first year I've missed it in the last 10 or so. Looks like a great line up (as usual) and I'll miss my annual visit to the Fletcher Brock table to play his octave mandolin.
I'll be expecting a full report with photos...

I am trying to figure out a plan now. Long way from Alaska. Fletcher Brocks Octave mando is certainly the nicest octave I have played and resides in the top 10 instruments that I have ever played! A true thing of beauty. I almost bought it last year but punked out. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

You mean to tell me that I'm flying 2500 miles with 3-4 mandolins, spending $$$$$$ and you are not going to be there!?!
Whelll!!!! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Seriously, I'll be there with that Stealthy thing and a couple of Lloyds.

A highly doubtful maybe...it'll be the 2nd year in a row Im missing it. Last year really hurt since Mike and Ham were there doing the duet thing and I really wanted to see that. This sucking economy sucks! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Hans - I can't even begin to tell how bummed out I am that I will not be able to be there to meet you!
As I said before, this will be the first one I've missed in many years, but my wife and I decided we needed sunshine instead so we booked a cruise to Mexico.
Hey, just blame it on Bruce Harvie, he started it!

Hey Pete, I've heard some great music being played in the elevator.
Advice........get plenty of sleep beforehand, don't expect to get much there.

Sorta gives new meaning to the term "elevator music", eh?
Pete, sorry I'll be missing you this year. I just found out that there was a booth for me as someone cancelled. Maybe that will give me a foot in the door for next year if I can afford it.
For a hundred seventy-eight bucks a day it better be quiet on my floor...

"Anything I should know?"
Try to get a room on-campus, either at the $heriton or whatever the new joint is called...
Yeah, it's gonna cost you 5 bills, but it's really the way to go...
Try to get out of the hotel for a few hours every day. #There's a nice little antique section of town in Tacoma a few blocks away, and there's also a couple music stores in that area with some cool old gear...
Generally speaking, I've come to the conclusion that bluegrass festivals--like baseball--should be seasonal events that take place in the great (warm) outdoors with stars overhead...
That being said, everyone should experience a few Wintergrasses, IBMAs, or River City festivals....
"Avoid the elevator! "
Here's a shot I took a few years ago of some folks who got stuck in the $heriton elevator. #We were handing them shots of single malt to while away the time 'till they got unstuck.... # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
