Just wondering if anyone else has enjoyed his music as much as I have. Some of his cd's aren't my style, but Hard Road and Other Times, Places and Lives are both excellent. If you haven't heard him, you should check him out.

Oh, yeah! He's an amazing player and a nice guy in his workshops. I like his gravelly voice, as well. And his use of the clawhammer banjo. Definitely a fan here.

Steve is a truly gifted mandolin player, singer and composer. His music covers a very broad palette from traditional bluegrass to Celtic, Swing and some amazing original compositions. You can check out some his music at:

sgarrity had Steve over his house for a very nice intimate house concert a few months ago. It was just him solo with a couple of mandolins and a guitar and he was great.

He asked if there were any requests and since I just learned Rawhide I requested that and he played a version that I think was the most kick butt version I had ever heard it was REALLY good. Almost made me NOT want to play my version anymore! LOL!

I bought one of his CD's and kept it in rotation in my truck for a long time it was pretty good and I listened to it a lot.

I would attend a workshop of his if one was available. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Steve has been at the last 2 (at least)) Zoukfests (www.zoukfest.com). His duets with Sharon Gilcrist were among my personal Zoukfest highlights. I'll bet he'll be back this year.

Yessir, Steve Smith is one amazing picker, not to mention an extremely nice guy. He does some new agey stuff that can be a little out there but he also plays great bluegrass/old-time/folkish stuff. I have all of his cd's and they get played very regularly. If he's playing or teaching anywhere near you, run, dont walk, to see him!
