Here's a couple of pictures of my mandolin. This is scratch built. I wished that I had found this forum a few months ago. There is a wealth of information here that I could have used. Anyway, here it is.

The top is European spruce and yes the grain has a little bear claw to it. (cubby bear)
It sounds nice. I let another fella play it a couple of weeks ago and was amazed at the difference in the tone and volume when your in front of the instrument. Maybe it was his playing ability too!!
#2 has been started so I guess the fever has bit me too.:)
