I received this beauty this morning:

Spruce top with mahogany back and sides

Morgan Monroe MA-1

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii155/SmokinSBBQ/New%20Mando/100_1978-1.jpg

Purchase was made through http://www.Folkmusician.com.
The setup is truly excellent, precise action and perfect intonation.

Packaging by Folkmusican was solid double boxing with tons of filler.

Strings are new and sound good, #think they may be D'addario but im not sure. I prefer Elixir but these are still fresh so ill keep them on there. =)

Complaints:

Only physically defect I can find is that the fingerboard is a little longer than the neck and overhangs it just a little... maybe 1/16-1/8 of an inch on the bridge end.

There is also a small amount of glue that seeped out between the fingerboard and neck.

Both of those are on the underside of the fingerboard toward the bridge and can hardly be seen at all on inspection.

I havent found any defects or blemishes in the finish.

Overall, Im VERY happy with this mando and the setup from Folkmusican.

Anyone else get a new toy this year? =D

Nice Todd.
I'll bet that mahogany will give you great tone. I've got a mando with mahogany and it just rings.

Enjoy Christmas & your new toy.

The tone is very nice indeed, the bass is warm and thick highs ring out clear and quite loud.

Sustain is strong as well.

Im somewhat shocked at how nice this mando is for the price ($300).

Still have my eye, and ear, on a Bitterroot or a custom Weber. *Drool*

Enjoy the holidays and time with the family.

Looking good, Shad. Pretty maple.
Don't let the soreness get out of those fingers! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I got my Newell A around the beginning of November, and while a portion of the funds were a pre-Christmas present, I guess still that doesn't really count. I did buy myself a Zoom H2 recorder for Christmas though, I couldn't resist.

My biggest and best "Christmas" present this year, was having all my kids, my parents, my sister and her family, at the house. What a WONDERFUL thing "family" is!

Next to that, I suppose my next favorite "Christmas" gift was my 2008 Wrangler X.

If I had to pick a third, I suppose it would be the new "Jack Russell Terrier" that we adopted (that makes FIVE dogs in the house now).

A new Harley Ultra Classic, and the 1930 oval hole Regal mando fits in the right side hard saddle bag. Love both the old mando that I rebuilt and the new harley. I feel so blessed that I have a wife that lets me do these wild things. Now looking for a luggage rack that will carry the other mando and guitar.:D

K3NTUCKI8oy.....

For fifty bucks, I'd shoot enough clear lacquer on it to fill up all the nicks and dings. Would make it good as new. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Of course, for that kind of deal, you'd have to pay the postage.
