Nice looking mandolin Frank. What number is it? Mine is Fletcher Brock #84 and it has a very similar headstock it would appear.

I have #85. I got to play 84 and 85 side by side for a about week, it was a tough choice... I went for 85 because it was more aggressive, but 84 had a sweeter tone. Though I haven't played anything of his that wasn't excellent!

Not bad for a 103 year old!

When I saw Frank in Victorville, CA a couple of years ago, he offered to let me play the Brock. I had to turn him down, as I was going through some rather extreme MAS at the time.

Besides, I wouldn't want to teach his mando any bad notes.

Torture in the sense that I think your Brock is about the nicest sounding mandolin out there. #Does it still have the "property of the U.S. Navy" sticker on the back of the peghead?

Then your version of Big Sciota (in the link) just blows the doors off the place. #I really liked John's guitar work too!

BTW - have you ever thought of putting out a recording of you and John?

Pete,
Do you mean JUST John and me? I did put out Selfish Tears (http://cdbaby.com/cd/franksolivanii2) last year... It has John and myself, of course, all over it.

I would love to hear just you and John ripping it up on some good ol' bluegrass chestnuts.

Hey Frank!

I thought I might find you on Mandolin Cafe. I met you this Sat. (Feb. 9th-two days ago) at the Palatka Bluegrass Festival. I was the lady you let play your Brock mando on the ramp, just outside the warm-up room.

I was walking towards the warm-up room upon arrival to the festival and what do I hear? I hear a very loud but toneful mandolin with that "deep crunch" that is a must for the finest bluegrass. I didn't bother Frank at first because I am shy and had to work up the nerve but I just HAD to find out what kind of mandolin that was so I went back there again and Frank was still there and he extended the mandolin to me to play which was unexpected. Wow!!!!! I have never played a better mandolin--it was ultra responsive, loud, toneful and it was super easy to play. Now MAS strikes yet AGAIN!!

Thanks again, Frank, for letting me play your Brock and for being such a nice gentleman. You and your band were top notch and the crowd just LOVED you! I hope to be able to pick and sing a few with you sometime.
