Another skill builder. I had a couple of boards left over from some re-sawing. So I got to join, carve, bind and finish my F5 clock. The piece is 10" x 7 1/2" x 1/4". Binding and scraping the scroll was enough to make a preacher cuss. It was a good project to gain some experience. Pardon the bad photo.

Doug, if you can do that the mandolin can't be far behind.

It chimes like Big Ben. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

That's great, Doug! You might have to add those to the inventory of armrests and pickguards.

Doug, sweet idea. I agree that you may have to start making and selling those too.

I'm not sure making too many of these. It took me about a week to do this one. The next may not take as long, but it's a ton of work. I can clearly see why F5's cost so much more.

The progress of the work is here:

Nicely done Doug. I am hoping to catch you and your band in Cleburne this January...

Wait a minute, no, on second thought I was going to say that must have taken hours.
Sorry, something just ticked.
Stop, Hands down!

It looks like a good "pickin' room clock

Does it come in a digital model? LOL http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Fine job Doug. People are noticing and commenting positively on my arm rest you crafted as well! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It should improve your timing, too, shouldn't it?!? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I think I'm hopeless on timing, but the clock is good for 60 bpm.

The boards used were from re-sawing for this project. I finally got to use my new 14" band saw. I'll have to try binding one of these sometime.

Glad you asked Stanley. It's a 14" Jet with the 6" riser blocks. The 1/2" 3 tooth blade cut through ebony and maple like butter. I've only resawed up to 8" wide with it and it did great.

Doug,
Have you thought about inlaying designs in the sides of those stands? I think that would look really cool.
