Hi Gang,
it took about half a year to create and finsih this wonderful mandolin - made by an upcoming young german luthier. Because he does not want me to mention his name, we call it BLIND LABEL.
So I am the proud owner of a in my eyes really great one-of-a-kind-mandolin.
Nicely made, with a great sound already at the start.
Can't wait how it will be when it breaks up....
So I decided to add its picture to my posts.

For some reason when I saved his avatar to my computer and opened it up it reverted to its full size.

I've seen that on some other avatars. I think the board constrains the dimensions to 100x100 if the picture is larger. That's an interesting two point. The top appears to be fairly wide grained and I like the volutes for the points.

Why does he not want you to mention his name. Is he embarrassed by his work? Doesn't he want more commissions?

The builder will start his "open" career probably next year, and since this first one was in his opinion not 100 percent perfect, he did not want to put his name on it.
I supported him and his workshop-plans by buying it at a price a bit above what I would get for it at the moment at a resale.
In any case we can look forward to his "official" instruments coming up in the future.
I am pretty sure the "blind label" will not be my last mando out of his workshop.

If he elects to wait until he has one that is 100 percent perfect, He might as well stop now. The 100 percent perfect mandolin hasn't yet, and likely never will be built.
Besides, getting his name out lets people know what to look foreward to and to compare how he is progressing.
He should be proud to put his name on it.

The maximum file size is about 153k unless it has been changed recently.

If you want to keep the oblong avatar from getting stretched (like mine), you need to "fill in" the blank space with white or transparent pixels using Photoshop or another program like that, so it is still 100x100. Jpegs do not support transparency, but Giff format does, and Scott allows both.
If you don't know how to do this, let me know and I can whip something up for you.

I always thought .jpg to be the more flexible files compared to .gif....
