I mostly use Everclear. Well, part of it gets used on the dye anyhow..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Although I have used denatured, this is what I mostly use.

Methyl Hydrate
Is there a difference between Methyl Hydrate, Methanol, and Wood Alcohol?
Answer: There is no difference between these products; it is just a different name for the same thing.

Is there a difference between Denatured Alcohol and Methanol, or are they the same?
Answer: They are not the same, but in most workshop applications either one can be used. Otherwise, Denatured Alcohol is an ethanol-based product and is considered less toxic than Methanol. Check to see if the manufacturer specifies one in particular and follow the recommendation.

Everclear... of course you must not drink it first, or you run our of alcohol, otherwise perfectly acceptable.. Generally 'denatured' alcohol works. Of course drinking that causes blindness and other maladies.. ick.. Stick with everclear.

You should consider that if you do use Everclear you will be paying a great deal of tax to thin some stain.

That's true, too. If you can find alcohol denatured with isopropanol instead of methanol, it's 'safer' although unless you're bathing in the stuff, I doubt you're absorbing much methanol anyway, and with stain you're wearing gloves, right?
