Wasn't that first picture the one that I saw on Ebay? #Are you trying to sell your MM? Maybe I am confused but I know I saw that same pic on Ebay. Anyways, it is a very beautiful mando.

Yes, a thinly-veiled, almost laughable attempt to say "See how great this is?"

Actually, it's pathetic.

I don't believe I mentioned that it was for sale in the picture post, only in the classifieds. Is this breaking some kind of rule? My apologies to anyone I might have offended. Set me straight.

I should also state that I did not post this on Ebay. I got quite a few requests for pictures after posting it in the classifieds. I am not a very pushy seller, so I didn't mention it in the picture posting. I'm not trying to be deceitful. I read through the posting guidlines and didn't see anything about 'not posting any pictures of your beautiful high-end mandolin you would be willing to sell or trade'.
I thought the pictures came out pretty well.

I don't see a problem here guys...give him a break. Are we gonna be mad if he sells it based on these pictures, and makes a donation to mandocafe like you are encouraged to do when using this service??

great looking mando, the few (2) I've played are right up there with the gils going (so they say) for over 20

Jun-03-2004, 7:41am
Fine line but I don't think it was crossed. #This is "post a picture of your mandolin" and nothing is promoting the sale in the thread (except the people posting the complaints promoting it indirectly). #

This is really different from those thread that talk about how great brand X is and then put their brand X up for sale. #This doesn't increase the visablity/demand for master models in general or this one in particular - IMHO.

..to me it doesnt make a difference where the pic appears....in the ads or here.....in fact...if its posted here you get more pics posted of brand x mando thats for sale....

Perhaps I missed it, but was there an official statement from Scott on posting pics of mandolins that are for sale? I've picked up from threads like this that it is frowned upon. Since all my mandolins are for sale I'm afraid to post any of them. I can see where it would get out of hand. But I can also see where it would help sell more mandos hence more donations for the cafe(hopefully). Perhaps some clarification could be made from someone who knows.

I believe the issue was posting a pic in this area only to sell it the following week -almost as a preview. This has cause some ire in the past. This section is to show what you have and play, not what you sell. That is what the clssifieds are for. But I never have an issue at looking at a nice mando. If it happens once in a while, why even bring it up? There are new folks here and some that do not read all of the posts so they may not be aware. If it happens often Scott will surely let us know. - Oh yeah, only mando content too http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I don't have any problem with posting pictures; heck, I've done it - Show Us Your Headstock, etc. But what I do think borders on taking advantage is to post an ad in the classified section, then clobber another thread with photos of that instrument, saying how lovely it is. If you have other photos to share, say so in the ad and let those with interest respond.

pick on...

"...But what I do think borders on taking advantage is to post an ad in the classified section, then clobber another thread with photos of that instrument, saying how lovely it is".
The name of this is "Post a picture of your mandolin". That's what I did. There where no statements about how great it is. If you want to get mad at something how about directing it toward people who hijack a thread because they have an axe to grind (not sell)?
Pick on....but not on me.

AlanN
Jun-03-2004, 9:53am
ok, but I thought this was posted for sale very recently on this web-site. If I'm mistaken, so be it.

Not to beat this to death... I did post it in the classifieds. It's buried in the back pages now. before I posted the pictures I searched for an old Gibson Master Model thread I had seen a while back. I couldn't find one, so I started a new topic.
If it was in poor taste, I'm sorry.
As my kids say "Peace out".:;):

Give him a break, he looked for the old thread I started...let's see some more Master Models

Besides that, half the Loar Picture of the Day items I've posted have been for sale...(just not by me) http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Chris Baird

Not to split hairs or start arguments but aren't all the mando pics posted here to show "how lovely it is". I mean why else post a pic of your instrument. The issue is probably more one of commercialism and where and how do we want to confine it. Perhaps it would be of interest and benfit for the cafe to expand its classified section to allow more photos. I wouldn't recommend this however, without some reasonable fee or strongly recommened donation. It would be very benificial to those selling mandolins as it takes forever to email photos to 20 different people, 90% of whom are just curious.

That poor horse...no hard feelings, it's a gorgeous instrument anyway http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Let me add also that I wasn't complaining at all when I first mentioned that I had seen it on Ebay. The reason I said that was because when I saw that first pic on Ebay I was thinking, "That sure is one beautiful colored sunburst on that!" and that's what I thought again when I saw it on here. It was just a very memorable picture! I wasn't complaining about it and I am always happy to see beautiful photos of beautiful mandos. Even if troika does want to sell I still have no problem with it! Really!!!!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I received my new Master Model this week and I have to say you can put me in the choir along with the other believers! I am amazed at how good it sounds right out of the box. It was signed May 27,04 and I haven't put it down since Wednesday when it showed up at my house. My hat is off to Danny Roberts and his crew for their dedication to their craft and to Charlie for the obvious guidance and integrity he brings to the whole operation. Thanks you guys!! I would like to submit a few pics if someone can tell me what the size requirements are. I tried but they are too big. I don't want to get them too small so everyone can see this one-it's beautiful!! Oh-it's not for sale!!

You need to resize your pictures with a program like Adobe photo shop or some other photo processing software. Resizing a digital photo is easy. Just click on an "image" heading in the task bar and reduce the size by percentage or by pixel.
Hurry up and learn so we can see some images of your awesome mandolin.:)

Is that what they call a slab-cut back? Does anybody know if the sound is affected from slab-cut to quarter-sawn backs?

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on my new Master Model. The pictures don't do it justice,if you can imagine that, and the sound,to me, is just as amazing. I can only imagine what it will sound like after It's been played a while. I can't thank Danny and Charlie and all the great folks at Gibson enough for the way this one turned out. BTW, I purchased this one through Don's Music City in Burlington,N.C. and I have never had a more satisfying experience with a Music Instrument dealer. Their service is exceptional and they are as excited as I am about this mandolin. Thanks,Jim!! Again, thanks for the nice response to the pics.
