I'm going to an auction tomorrow that has a Hofner 545 mandolin. I don't know the age but think it's from the 1960's. I'm just curious if anyone knows if this a decent mandolin and what's the most I should bid on it.

I would imagine if you've going to the auction tommorrow, there's a fair chance the Hofner will actually be there. I'm sure they will let you play it and thus determine for yourself if it is a good instrument. What does it matter if some Horner mandolins others have played were wonderful and this one "sucks"?
