Dear Mowry Owners:

Why don't we all post a picture of our Mowry, a sound clip or video of us playing it if possible, and our observations of the instruments. Post the number and date made. I'll do this once I get home (I'm on the road with my mowry now, (Asheville, NC)), but I wanted to get this idea on the board before I forgot.

Then we could have a catalog and record of the individual properties of each of these great instruments!

I have many pictures on this site- and my soundclick page has pics, plus a sonic comparison of my Mowry and Phoenix. #Same with my Youtube channel, where I play both. #

Let's go for it- everyone seen the Mandolin Magazine entry on Andrew? Good stuff on a good guy.

I like this thread idea and hope it catches on. It would be fun to see similar threads of other makers as well. I'll post some sound clips later.

Mine is #20, dated 2/14/07.

Alright then. Mowry # 12; 3/20/06; F5; chestnut color; Engelmann spruce top; Bigleaf maple back. Won't try to describe sound, but it sounds great, and others have enjoyed it as well. The back...

And my favorite mando photo, which some of you have seen before. As for sound clips, a friend has a new Zoom H-2 recorder, some maybe we can capture something when we next get together.

#25, completed on 6.15.07

This is a loud well voiced mandolin, that plays like butter, is as light as a feather, and carries its own in the company of fiddles, guitars, and whistles.

There's an interview (http://www.mandolinsessions.com/oct07/Mendel.html) with him in the new Mandolin Sessions web magazine.

Ralian,
Nice tune, nice playing, nice sounding instrument!
Am I correct in assuming this is your own composition? Got more?

Ok, as promised, here's a couple videos. I tried to play some tunes at different speeds to give a fuller picture, but my picking gets sloppy the faster I go. Oh well.

Can I unite with you pickers in about two years? I sent Andrew a check last week to get on his list.

Holy cow. Two and a half years! I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering how eye-catching his instruments are.

You guys can get a new one that looks awesome from his last batch at Carmel Music. New Mowry for sale (http://carmelmusic.com/stocklist/scanned%20photos/Mowry_F-5_FB.jpg)

Whoa!! That's a looker - and a deal; less than Andrew's getting for a new F5, without the wait! #Course I have mine already....

Number 15 from the back.

I wish I hadn't promised my wife no more instruments for a while after the Collings 12 fret guitar. I'd be at Andrew's shop begging him for an archtop!

They all look great, though at the moment (with plenty of time to change my mind) I've got my heart set on a two point. I was thinking blonde, like the one featured on jazzmando.com, but looking at Brad's, I'm starting to wonder how that would look as a two point. So many choices....

Here's my #10, with custom one-piece bridge. (Works great.) So Andrew's list now runs to 2 1/2 years! In 2005 I had to wait 2 1/2 MONTHS. Still very happy with the result.

Here's #36--arrived in April, and it's been hard to put it down ever since. Everything I asked for from Andrew, and more.

And what a nice guy Andrew is-he lives in Bend where two of my kids live, while visiting them Andrew installed a P/guard on my Collings and gave me a "factory tour", a great little shop. He had 4 mando's assembled awaiting binding and Andrew walked me through the building process. He does superb work with much attention to detail.
Recently I dropped my Collings on my sons patio ( I was going to play for a friend from Ukraine and the strap came loose-cracked the back and in a panic took it to Andrew who looked at it and said "no big deal", it's awaiting my son to P/U as I type.I would love to order a custom blond 2 point (3 point with the leg rest)from him.

I think this is a great way to allow people to learn about different builders instead of people having to talk about how much they like their mando on the "what mando should I get" threads. Threads like this should be started for all the popular builders. It would help me as I consider a builder in the future. I need to decide on one asap so that when I get close financially I can put a deposit down so by the time I get the cash my wait won't be too long. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Very good playing Brad. Very helpful for me to get a feel for the sound of a Mowry. Most people on Youtube play stuff that is out of their skill range or they play too fast and the playing is sloppy. I want to know what the mando sounds like when it is played cleanly. Having the backup track half the time of the mando is also very helpful. Thanks a lot.

I just recently found these forums. Nice! (I have been on the Cafe regulary, but had just been in the habit of looking at the ads) Anyway, I had No. 49 built by Andrew. It was completed last May. If I do this right I'll attach a couple of photos. Of course, it is gorgeous, and has all the tone and playability Andrew is becoming well known for. It's an F-5. While I was on his waiting list I bought a Collings MT2. Very nice. Then, after getting the Mowry, I got what I think was a pretty decent deal on Collings MF-5 No. 4 (the first batch of MF-5's). Too many expensive mandolins for me. I sold the MT2 recently and am now trying to decide whether I can keep the other two and if not which to sell. Did you see Sophie's Choice? Actually I was half-heartedly trying to sell the Mowry recently, but took down the ad. Just can't do it. It's interesing how much the Mowry seems to have opened up recently. A friend loaned me his "Tonerite" which I left on it for almost a week. I know the "vibration theory" is controversial, but it did seem to make a difference. Comparing the two is hard to describe. Different, but both VERY good. I'm trying to convince myself it's a good investment to keep them both. (Actually I think the Mowry has more "upside" potential as far as an investment..doubt the Collings will increase, but will hold its own). So..it's not like owning a boat or something...right??

Hey, I remember this thread. Well, my #12 sounds great, even if my picking doesn't. But, as a hobby player (for lack of a better term), I've got a mando that rewards me when I do something right. Here's two tunes I've been working on recently - and I hope I can do the instrument at least a little bit of justice. And, man, that little Zoom H2 picks up everything.

Dave

Block fretboard inlays, and the headstock inlay is slightly different. They both look beautiful. I would love to have either one, but I slightly prefer the one on the right. That Art Deco peghead is awesome.

I found this thread and figured I might share some pics of my brand new Mowry F5. It is #62, dated 7/7/10.
I have had it for about six weeks now. I is so beautiful, plays well and sounds good. I'm so so happy.
